This Guatemalan single origin from Legado really caught our attention because of its complexity and versatility. It has an unapologetic full body of the sort you'd want from a Latin American coffee, yet it is still smooth and sometimes even velvety in consistency. While there are plenty of chocolatey and nutty notes to be found in this cup, we were pleasantly surprised by some of the other accompanying flavours we found in certain brew methods.
In the plunger and Aeropress, some fruity characteristics came through that reminded us of dates and even a subtle hint of stone fruit. Its nutty characteristics also translated into a wonderful hazelnut finish in these brew methods. There was also a subtle hint of another sweet note that we couldn't quite place until we tried it in a Siphon and were bowled over by the quite pronounced taste of banana. Needless to say, this is a coffee we'd highly recommend you try!

The Morito farm has been owned by the family since Monterroso planted the first coffee plant in 1979. The cherries are carefully cut and then passed to the wet process. They are then depulped with recycled water. The coffee is later fermented in tanks for 10 hours and washed with fresh water. Depending on the customer's taste, the drying process can be done in two ways: the coffee is placed on patios to dry naturally or in a drying machine at 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
The family Monterroso supports their workers and surrounding communities social needs. It actively contributes to the conservation of natural forests at the Mataquescuintla area, and works closely with neighboring towns to provide health and education.
