Origin Coffee Roasting does an amazing job of sourcing and roasting top quality African coffees, but they are not just about coffees from the mother continent. On the contrary, Origin has shared some wonderful South American beans with us over the years and this is one of the latest examples.
While Colombia is a very well known exporter of coffee to all parts of the world, including South Africa, this is a somewhat less common example of the country's coffee harvests. It comes from the Narino region which is a bit less well known than areas such as Huila or Cauca. It's the first Origin coffee from that region that we can remember. It's also a honey process, which is quite a rare Colombian find. The coffee was mechanically depulped and then underwent an extended fermentation with its mucilage.
In the cup, this coffee is delightfully different from what we've come to expect of Colombian coffees. Rather than caramels, this coffee is all about dark chocolate flavour to our palates. Specifically, it reminds us of dusted cocoa. This is accompanied by some subtle fruit, varying between stone fruit and orange. It's fairly versatile, so we'd suggest getting a bag, no matter what your brew method of choice is.
