Colombia is without a doubt one of the most exciting coffee-growing countries in the world! With a forward-thinking and progressive community of farmers and one of the most advanced national coffee infrastructures, Colombia continues to deliver some of our favourite coffees at CCB. Not only are Colombian coffees consistently delicious, but Colombia is the only coffee producing country in the world to have two harvest periods, meaning there is fresh crop Colombian all year round! YUM.

This microlot comes from Finca Primavera in the Urrua region of North Western Colombia and is produced and processed by Hugo Sepulveda and his family. At only 1.5 hectares, the farm is incredibly small, even by local microlot standards. This means that Hugo and his family have had to work extra hard and pay extra attention to detail in order to make the farm sustainable.

Don Hugo is a very influential member of the local coffee growing community in Pavón and has been integral in making The Pavón Group a cohesive and progressive community of producers. He is also renowned for the attention to detail he puts into cultivating and processing his coffees and can often be seen (always trailed by his two dogs) meticulously patrolling his farm.

Phaedon’s tasting notes

This Colombian lot is next level. I was very sad when my sample bag came to an end! Living up to the country's speciality coffee reputation, this lot is the perfect balance of sweet, bright and full bodied, with lots of complexity to boot.

The dominant flavours in the cup are definitely ripe orange and a smokey, sugary sweetness that sometimes reminded me of maple syrup but even verged on molasses at times. There were other subtle flavours to appreciate as well. In my filtered brews I found some ripe stone fruit flavours, hovering somewhere between apricot and cherry.

There was no brew method that I did not thoroughly enjoy this coffee in, and each one of them revealed something slightly different. I'd highly recommend that you buy a bag and try it every way you can.
