We're all pretty excited about this coffee at CCBHQ. Not only is it the first coffee from the Democratic Republic of Congo that our friends at Origin Coffee Roasting have roasted in the time we've worked with them, it's only the second one from the country that we've ever tried (the other is a lovely example from Bean There). That's not the only reason to be excited about it though... this coffee's also delicious and quite unique.

The DRC is right next to Rwanda, one of Africa's most celebrated coffee producing countries. In fact, coffee is produced on the shores of Lake Kivu in both countries. Of course Rwanda has a much more established reputation in the world of coffee these days, mostly because the DRC has come out of a difficult period of  conflict in its recent history. Thankfully the current conditions are now allowing its coffee industry to build itself back up, and we're thrilled to be able to taste the fruits of their labours.

In the cup, this coffee is intriguingly complex. It's very sweet, with a brown sugar quality that kept us coming back for more. There's also plenty of fruit to enjoy, with flavours like stone fruit, or even orange marmalade thanks to the slight fermented note. In some cups, we found flavours that reminded us of very dark chocolate, and we really did enjoy it in pretty much any brew method we tried. This is quite a rare coffee-tasting opportunity, so we'd highly recommend that you pick up a bag while you can.
