This latest Yirgacheffe from our friends at Origin Coffee Roasting is quite a quirky one. Coffees from the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia are sold under the trademarked regional name - a little bit like Champagne. They are prized for their delicate characteristics, light bodies, floral aromas, citrus flavours and tea-like qualities, but this one is quite different!
The first thing that struck us about this Yirgacheffe was its body. It seems to have a lot more than you might expect from your typical example from the region. Its flavours are also bolder, more developed and somewhat unexpected. We found flavours like stewed Guava in the cup as well as a candy-like quality that may well remind you of wine gums.
We tend to enjoy Yirgacheffe coffees in pour-overs, but we preferred this one in brew methods that embraced its unique flavour profile like the French Press and the moka pot. If you're an adventurous coffee lover, you shouldn't miss out on the chance to try out this quite different, but delicious example from Yirgacheffe.
