This Guatemalan coffee hails from a remote farm, far outside of Guatemala city, high up in the mountains. It's so high in fact, that it is often draped in clouds or 'Nubes' in Spanish, which is where it derives its name from.
Finca Las Nubes is owned and run by Don Fabio Solis, who bought the land in the 1980s, retiring from his career as a lorry driver in pursuit of something better. Despite his lack of a coffee farming background, in 2001 Don Fabio proved how serious he was by winning the very first Guatemalan Cup of Excellence competition! He continues to pursue quality in his coffee farming, believing that the secret is actually in the land itself.
In the cup, this is a classic coffee. Prepared by our friends at Origin Coffee Roasting as a light/medium roast, it has a medium body, and a pleasant, sweet and creamy characteristic that shines through in all brew methods. There's a hint of fruit that sometimes reminded us of red plum, and sometimes of red apple, as well as a subtle nuttiness. We enjoyed this coffee most in shorter extractions like a V60 pour-over, siphon or a moka pot. It should also make great espresso.
