It's been a while since Origin Coffee Roasting has had a new release from Blackburn Estate in Tanzania, but we have very fond memories of those from years past. Origin and Blackburn have had a long and fruitful relationship which has produced many delicious coffees which we've had the pleasure of offering to our customers here at CCB.
This particular lot from Blackburn Estate is a peaberry - the naturally occurring single-seeded coffee bean mutation that many prize as being of the highest quality. Some believe these round little coffee beans roast more evenly than their flat cousins. Others think that they are just inherently more flavourful. Regardless of the explanation, peaberry lots are worth watching out for.
This coffee is somewhat enigmatic in the cup. You may have trouble putting your finger on exactly what the pleasant flavours remind you of, but that shouldn't detract from the enjoyment. It's surprisingly full-bodied with a creamy and sweet quality. We found some subtle hints of apple in some brews, and thoroughly enjoyed it in a short V60, a siphon brew and a moka pot.
