Hot on the heals of the delicious and quickly sold out Iyenga Peaberry, our friends at Origin Coffee Roasting have found yet another exemplary Tanzanian coffee to share with us. This washed AA is a wonderful, versatile every day drinking coffee that you should enjoy in most brew methods.
The coffee is named after the Usongwe valley, whose surrounding area is full of tiny villages and smallholder coffee farmers, in a region where coffee growing is the primary economic activity. The Usongwe Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Society (Usongwe AMCOS) brings together 520 of the local farmers who independently grow small lots of coffee which are centrally processed and sorted with rigorous quality control.
This particular Usongwe lot offers a nice balance between body and acidity, with plenty of sweetness in the cup. While they are all quite subtle and well-integrated, you'll find lots of fruit flavour to enjoy like apple and dark grape, and even hints of tropical flavours like mango. It produced a balanced and tasty cup in all the brew methods we tried, so we'd encourage you to pick up a bag regardless of your brewing implement of choice.
