Guji is one of the lesser known sub-regions of Ethiopia that is getting more well-deserved attention these days. Though it may not be as recognised a name as Sidamo, Yirgacheffe or Limu, we certainly have found more and more of our speciality roasters sharing high quality examples from the area.

This new Guji from The Portland Project is actually a natural-processed coffee, making it a slightly rarer find. While this process (also called the dry process) is the more traditional African way of separating seed and fruit, most Ethiopian exports now use the more modern wet or washed method.

As one might expect with a natural, this coffee displays plenty of fruit in the cup. It has a malty sweet quality, with a nice berry aroma. It's no slouch on acidity either though, and as it cools some more tangy orange-like notes come to the fore. We'd recommend giving this coffee a try in most manual brew methods.
