Rosetta Roastery - Indonesia Sumatra PODA

This product typically takes 2-3 working days to dispatch

Our friends at Rosetta Roastery have a long history of sourcing and perfectly roasting top quality Sumatrans. Coffees from Sumatra have a really distinct flavour, thanks to the giling basah processing method that is native to the island that leaves a higher moisture content. The resulting quirky, earthy & herbaceous flavours are irresistible to some coffee lovers.

If you're one of those coffee lovers, you're going to absolutely love PODA - the latest in Rosetta Roastery's Sumatran lineage. It actually reminds us of the first Rosetta Sumatran we tasted - the bold & beautiful Blue Batak.

In the cup, this coffee is all about earthy & green flavours with a massive body for those who like their coffee with oomph. Still, it has a sweeter side as well, with notes that reminded us of demerrara sugar or even golden syrup, as well as the slightest hint of berries shining through in pour-overs.

We had our best results in plungers and pour-overs, so if those are your weapons of choice, you must try this coffee out. It will also make a mean espresso.

Roaster's notes

Style: Classic

Kurtz knelt amongst the wild herbs on the forest floor, the summer sun reflecting off his bald head. His body felt heavy under its own weight, but his mind felt heavier. The ripening berries held a hint of sweetness, but all he ever smelled these days was the napalm.

As is often the case with coffees processed in the giling basah method, the resting moisture content is quite high. As a result, we don’t want to rush the process, and aren’t afraid to use plenty of heat later on in the roast.

The PODA Co-operative operates in the Dairi district of Northern Sumatra, near the town of Sidikalang. The co-operative’s 400 farmers produce coffee of varying levels of quality, but we have chosen to work with the minority who produce exceptionally high-quality specialty lots of typica-fronted microlots.
