Rosetta Roastery's Kenyan coffees are not to be missed, and this one is no exception. Delicate, elegant and simply delicious, it will wow in most long filter-style brews. Its flavours are eclectically fruity, with red berries, ripe oranges and tropical fruit notes to be found in most cups. It also has a hint of a sweet spice that reminded us a little bit of cinnamon.

What we particularly love about this Kenyan AA is that it manages to present all the fruit flavour, without even a hint of the sourness that sometimes is found in coffees from the country. Our friends at Rosetta have masterfully roasted it, coaxing just the right amount of sweetness out of the development phase, without masking any delicate flavours. We particularly loved it in an Aeropress, though we also had wonderful results in a French Press and a pour-over.

Style: Progressive

She paused at the balcony and looked down over the crowd; poised as both child and champion of the people. Her full berry-red lips and bright eyes hinted at the fire inside, her wild passion never detracted from her stature. Few stood so tall for the cause of the lowly.

This large dense bean requires a lot of heat, and is also given a little more time in the roaster. That said, she is elegance manifest, so we try not to make her share the limelight with any obvious roasting flavours. Development time is a fair deal shorter than our other Kenyans.

Lying on the Southern slopes of the great Mt Kenya, the Barichu Co-operative is a gem in the crown of Kenya’s Nyeri County – the Grand Cru region of the country’s coffee industry. Long-time fans of Rosetta’s Kenyan offerings will be very excited to know that the Barichu Co-op is the sterling outfit that plays host to the Karatina Factory, the Gatomboya Factory (producer of one of our former Reserve Lots), and finally the Karindundu factory - the mill that produced this spectacular AA lot.
