What on earth is a puck screen?! We must admit, that was our question too, at least at first. After doing a bit of research and inspecting a sample, we quickly realised that this may be an important little piece of design and innovation.
One of the biggest obstacles to consistently great espresso is channelling, where water favours a particular path, leading to some parts of the espresso puck extracting more and other parts less. There are many ways to tackle channelling, including better tamping and better distribution, but most solutions don't focus on the water flow itself.
That's where this handy puck screen comes in. By placing this on top of your espresso puck, you can ensure that the water coming out of your group head is being evenly distributed across the whole puck, rather than favouring the middle. It makes intuitive sense that this should minimise channelling, particularly when combined with good distribution and tamping.
This particular puck screen is made of stainless steel and features a high density of tiny holes for even water flow and no disruption to the flow rate and pressure. Give it a try; it may just improve your espresso!

Espresso Puck Screen
Simple and very effective.
Worth it for me
I'm still relatively new to espresso, and was having some challenges with fast/inconsistent shots, even with careful puck prep (wdt, correct dosing, tamping). This puck screen seems to really help with even water distribution, and has helped to bring much more consistency to my shot times. Yes, it does add one more thing to clean, but if you're committed to good espresso, it's already 80‰ about cleaning and prep, so it hasn't been a painful addition for me (YMMV).
Don’t even hesitate, just buy it
This puck screen in beautifully made and has drastically improved my shots and workflow. It keeps the shower screen almost spotlessly clean, so cleaning the grouphead after pulling a shot is a breeze. I also have noticed my pucks are more evenly wetted with fewer channeling incidents, and (most importantly) the espresso is tasting great! The screen itself also washes up so easily. Get it, you won’t be sorry.
