Eureka has been making stylish, high-quality coffee grinders since the 1920s, and it’s become one of the most trusted names in the space. It’s best known by the home-barista for its aptly-named Mignon series, a range of compact but powerful grinders designed primarily for the home but also suitable for low-volume professional use. We’re happy to now be able to offer you yet another fantastic member of the Mignon family, the Eureka Mignon Libra, named so for a particularly exciting special feature: grinding by weight.

The Eureka Mignon Libra comes equipped with a built-in scale, and is thus able to grind according to a desired weight of coffee. You simply select one of two presets (single and double doses) on the touchscreen display, then adjust to your preferred weight within 1/10th of a gram using the “+” and “-” buttons; the grinder then starts once your portafilter is in place, grinding to exactly that weight. This obviates the need for an external scale in the dosing and grinding process entirely, shortening your prep and overall brew time.

Grind-by-weight grinders are a fairly groundbreaking development in the coffee grinder and espresso spaces. They offer a level of precision and consistency that time-based and manual grinders do not, allowing you to more exactly fine-tune your recipes and enjoy more balanced, flavourful espresso. Grinding by weight is also a rare feature generally, seen typically on high-end commercial machines, which makes the Eureka Libra all the more exciting for the home espresso enthusiast.

You can still grind manually with a Libra if you want to (though not by time - see here if that’s something you need in a grinder). Simply press and hold both grind option icons, and the Libra will begin grinding until you remove the portafilter, displaying your dose’s weight all the while. The grinder automatically shuts off if you remove the portafilter, whether you’re grinding by weight or manually, to prevent waste and mess.

The Libra includes all of the other attractions we’ve come to expect and love from Eureka’s Mignon line as well. It’s familiarly stylish and unobtrusive, even if it’s slightly bigger than the rest of the Mignon range. It’s powerful and fast (outputting 1.5g -1.8g per second), but quiet thanks to Eureka’s proprietary silencing technology - all the moving parts on the inside are mounted to the sturdy aluminium frame with noise reducing cushioning, minimising sound caused by metal-on-metal vibrations.

Additionally, the Libra sports the Mignon line’s unique portafilter fork and adjustable rubberised cradle, capable of holding whatever size portafilter you have (spouted or bottomless), and a patented micrometric stepless grind adjustor, allowing you to fine-tune your preferred setting in whatever increment you need. Between this and every other attractive feature we’ve come to expect from Eureka’s Mignon series, the Libra is a surefire way to elevate your home espresso setup.
