Marketing Assistant

Cape Coffee Beans is South Africa's leading retailer in the speciality coffee space, both online and offline, and has been recognised as one of the country's top eCommerce companies. If you are interested in combining a love of coffee with a career in marketing, we have just the opportunity for you...

Opportunity Overview

We are looking for a budding marketer with creative, digital and analytical skills, as well as a genuine passion for speciality coffee to join our team as a Market Assistant. The role will involve working closely with the founder on all aspects of marketing including ppc, social media and email, as well as helping to create product pages and generate creative campaigns.

This is a full time position, that would be primarily based at our HQ in Claremont, Cape Town.

Job Description

We're looking for someone to join the team as a Marketing Assistant, to help build on our success and momentum both online and offline. We’re not necessarily looking for years of experience in any particular marketing discipline, but rather a young, ambitious jack of all (marketing) trades who can work closely with the founder on all aspects of our marketing: creative, verbal, digital and analytical.

The scope of the role would include (but wouldn’t necessarily be limited to):

  • Drafting email marketing campaigns
  • Drafting product pages
  • Managing adwords ppc campaigns
  • Managing our social media channels
  • Generating creative ideas for campaigns
  • Creating, managing and executing on a marketing calendar
  • General copywriting
  • Creating and taking advantage of PR opportunities
  • SEO

While you would primarily be dealing with the items mentioned above, we're a small team and so we all have to pitch in on other aspects of the business at some point. Cape Coffee Beans is also part of a small group of businesses, and while the vast majority of your time would be spent on CCB, you would also occasionally need to carry out tasks related to the other business units.

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • A genuine interest in speciality coffee (instant-drinkers need not apply)
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Genuine creativity
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Familiarity with digital marketing tools and platforms
  • An appetite and strong aptitude for learning
  • A positive disposition towards feedback
  • A high level of motivation
  • A high degree of reliability

It would also be helpful (but not necessarily essential) to have:

  • Photo editing skills
  • Experience with Shopify
  • Experience with MailChimp
  • Video editing skills
  • Experience in the coffee industry
  • Experience in eCommerce and/or retail
  • Web development and design skills
  • SEO experience and/or skills

The pace at Cape Coffee Beans can be fast and our standards are very high, so ideal candidates will relish a bit of a challenge. While we do our best to structure and plan, as a fast-growing small business that literally serves thousands of customers, our workload will vary and many days provide surprises. It's important that you have a positive disposition and enjoy solving problems, even if they land on your plate unexpectedly. We take our work seriously, but we also aim to have fun doing it!

This job would provide an extremely broad set of marketing-related experience, as well as ample opportunities for learning and growth within the company. You would also learn a lot about entrepreneurship, eCommerce, retail, and of course coffee.

If all of this sounds like an exciting opportunity for you and a good fit for your skills, personality and attitude, please do take the time to fill out an online application and help us get to know you.
