Rocket Espresso Milano is probably best known for its single boiler machines with heat exchangers. You could say that its reputation has been built on them. Having said that, many commercial machines and top of the range home espresso machines use dual-boilers and have a dedicated steam boiler and brewing boiler. For years, the Rocket R58 has been Rocket's answer to a dual boiler home espresso machine. R Cinquantotto actually directly translates to R58; the machine was aptly named, because the R Cinquantotto is the same machine as the R58 with some small updates that make for a better experience and improved usability.
About the Rocket R Cinquantotto
As with the R58, in the R Cinquantotto, Rocket has included dual boilers made from brass and copper: a 0.58L brew boiler and a 1.8L steam boiler. They each use 1,400W long life heating elements with a maximum concurrent power draw of 1,550W. Rocket has combined this with many of the standard features that are prized in its other machines, including a commercial quality, almost silent rotary pump, the option to operate from a 2.5L water reservoir or connect to a water supply, a commercial E61 brewing group and an electronic pre-infusion system.
The Rocket Cinquantotto has two PID controllers for extra temperature stability in both the brew and steam boiler. These PIDs also electronically monitor the boilers' fill level to avoid running dry. Of course, Rocket has included all the great finishing touches that they are known for in the Cinquantotto such as height-adjustable feet, a no-burn steam wand, a hot water dispenser and gauges to monitor and adjust boiler pressure.
The biggest difference between the R58 and R Cinquantotto is the addition of a digital touch screen panel that allows for easy control of your PID and provides you with a much needed, built-in shot timer. It also allows for a programmable automatic on/off functionality that means that your machine will be ready to deliver delicious espresso as soon as you hop out of bed in the morning! If you're fond of the classic Italian espresso design, you can detach the touchscreen control panel and return to the simple, yet aesthetically pleasing form factor of the R58.

Great Prosumer Machine
The heat up time is about 25min. You can use the controller to set a time for the machine to switch on, so when you wake up, it's pre-heated. With the tank, it allows pre-wetting and plumbed in you can pre-infuse. Plumbing in this machine is very simple and the pump pressure is easily accessible and adjustable. The rotary pump is very quiet. With the dual PID/Boilers, you can set the temperature for your coffee and still have great steam power, or you can switch off the steam boiler if you want to save power. The steam wand has good articulation and is easy to operate. It brings milk up to temperature very quickly, about 15 seconds. You could always use the smaller steam wand tip (included), if you want to slow it down and have more control. This machine makes consistently great coffee easily and is a great buy. I would recommend it to newbies and experienced buyers.
