The Gaggia Classic is both a design and coffee icon. Since 1991, it has established itself as one of those instantly recognisable ways to make coffee, the world over, and also evocative of traditional Italian coffee culture. There have been many versions and upgrades over the years, and in the last few years, the Gaggia Classic has only gotten better and better with each release, but it's always been aimed squarely at the consumer that is quality conscious but looking for something basic and affordable. Now, with the release of the GT, Gaggia has something exciting for the prosumer.
About the Gaggia Classic GT
The Gaggia Classic GT isn't just a slightly better Gaggia Classic. It's basically a Gaggia Classic with absolutely everything a contemporary espresso aficionado would want, including features only typically seen on the very highest machines. There is so much to talk about, and get excited about in the Gaggia Classic GT (and a full feature list below) but suffice it to say, this isn't just a step up from the old Gaggia Classic; this is a whole new level.
First and foremost, the Gaggia Classic GT is a dual-boiler, PID-controlled machine, much like the very best premium machines out there on the market. That means it is incredibly temperature stable and entirely configurable in terms of brewing and steaming pressure and temperature. The configurability doesn't stop there however. The Gaggia Classic GT allows the espresso nerd to tinker with all sorts of features, from pre-set volumetric dosing, to group head overpressure and programmable pre-infusion. It even has handy features like an automatic wake-up time that you can control from its sleek interfaced comprised of toggle switches on the front and a TFT display and buttons on the top.
The Gaggia Classic GT feature set doesn't stop there though. Gaggia really has ensured that the GT has all the quality of life features a prosumer could want including a dedicated hot water wand (in addition to the steam wand), an adjustable drip tray (offering extra height for tall cups) and a group head pressure gauge.
Those that know a thing or two about espresso machines will be quick to tell you that this incredible feature set is usually only found on the very best machines on the market, which makes the Gaggia Classic GT's price point surprisingly modest. It may be a big step up from the regular Classic, but that is the wrong comparison to make. The Gaggia Classic GT is built to compete with the higher end machines out there, and it seems very well positioned to do so. For lovers of the Gaggia Classic brand and aesthetic who are seeking a full-featured machine, the GT may be the greatest Gaggia Classic yet.
