Wega makes espresso machines that have a reputation for being the workhorses of the South African coffee industry. For many years, the Italian brand has built a legacy of manufacturing reliable, heavy duty commercial espresso machines; you'll spot them on espresso bars in many cafes across the country, and the wider world. Their machines come with a promise of great value for money, long-lasting service and strong, reliable performance. That’s why we’re excited to introduce Wega’s latest addition to their lineup: the Wega Rover, a machine that follows in the footsteps of Wega’s previous offerings while offering new innovations that allow it to deliver performance that belies its size and price point.
With two group heads, a key differentiator for this heat-exchanger commercial machine are its automation and analytical features. Not only is this an automatic machine with four programmable beverage settings on each grouphead; it also features a shot timer and a shot counter, helping baristas keep track of their drinks and cafe managers keep track of the machine's output. The machine also has an automated cleaning cycle feature, and a simple digital display makes configuration straightforward.
Having covered the basics of what a coffee operation needs, more than adequately, Wega has also built in a number of premium features that often cost extra on other commercial espresso machines. The Wega Rover comes with "barista lights" as standard; the workspace is illuminated to make it easy for the baristas to work in all lighting conditions. The drip trays are adjustable to three different heights, meaning that you can accommodate a wide range of cup sizes, from traditional espresso to taller takeaway cups.
The Wega Rover also features a substantial 11.5L boiler ready to serve a significant amount of cups during busier hours. It may be surprising to hear that despite all the features and the big boiler, the machine weighs only 55kg (when empty) and is relatively compact, helping to maintain an open and inviting countertop for customer engagement.
Last but certainly not least, the Rover is designed to be easy to service and maintain, with easily accessible internal parts, and a network of support across South Africa (and beyond). While this may be a new Wega machine, we feel it's in keeping with Wega's established strengths: it's robust, functional and surprisingly affordable given the feature set. We expect, like its predecessors, that it will be incredibly popular with South African coffee business owners and managers.
