Coffee cultivation in Colombia began in the 18th century, after introduction by Jesuit missionaries. By the late 19th century, production had rapidly spread across family-owned farms throughout the Andean mountain ranges, and coffee became the nation's primary commercial export. In 1927, the Federación Nacional de Cafeteros de Colombia (National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia) was established to protect the interests of the smallholder farmers driving this success. Today, this federation represents over half a million coffee-growing families whose crops are enjoyed around the world thanks to selective harvesting and careful processing methods.

In southern Colombia, the Huila department is nestled within the Macizo Colombiano — an extensive region where many of the South American country's central mountain ranges and rivers originate. Along the volcanic slopes of Isnos, sitting between 1,750 and 2,150 metres above sea level, lies the sprawling Finca Las Guineas coffee estate. This 160-hectare farm was launched as a joint venture between third-generation producer Fabián Murcia and renowned specialty coffee innovators Rodrigo Sánchez (of Finca Monteblanco) and Elkin Guzmán (of Finca El Mirador).

Thanks to this partnership and a shared dedication to excellence, Finca Las Guineas exclusively cultivates highly sought after, and rare Geisha and Pink Bourbon varieties. As an expert in agronomic sciences, Fabián Murcia approaches the estate's crops from the soil up, optimising plant health through precise nutrition, advanced biostimulation, and a deep understanding of soil microbiology.
