Founded in Milan in 1945 by Carlo Ernesto Valente, Faema didn't just build espresso machines, it helped define mid-century Italian café culture. With their polished chrome accents, backlit glass, and gorgeous retro-futuristic curves, Faema's designs became the visual language of Italy's post-war coffee boom, an influence that can still be seen today. But its true legacy arrived in 1961 with the release of the E61. By introducing an internal volumetric pump that delivered a consistent 9 bars of pressure, Faema revolutionised the way espresso was extracted. Fast forward to today, and the pioneering design of the E61 group head is still widely considered the gold standard for premium commercial and home espresso machines.
To celebrate 60 years of this iconic machine, Faema released the E61 Legend. This semi-automatic machine stays true to the stunning aesthetic and heavy-duty materials of the original. Under the hood, however, it's been thoughtfully upgraded for modern reliability. Featuring an automatic boiler fill, a built-in volumetric pump, dual pressure gauges, and a patented thermal balancing system, the Legend marries vintage appeal with modern precision.
Inside, the E61 Legend employs the same industrial design that changed espresso forever back in 1961. The Legend features a mechanical pre-infusion chamber that gently saturates your coffee bed under low pressure before it ramps up for a full extraction. Thanks to Faema's innovative heat exchange system, the E61 has a powerful steam wand and a group head that provides thermal stability when you need it, allowing you to steam milk while pulling a shot. This control extends to the adjustable thermal balancing valve that gives you the ability to change brew temperature according to your preference or roast.
The E61 Legend espresso machine uses a 6 litre steam boiler to maintain a high amount of pressure for on demand usage. Fresh brew water is pumped through dedicated copper tubes inside the steam boiler. Faema's patented thermosyphon system continuously circulates this hot water through a closed loop to keep the temperature of the group head stable at all times. Whether you're looking to create a boutique café space, or build the ultimate 'Espresso Italiano' setup at home, the E61 Legend delivers the original espresso experience.
