Manual pour-over brewing methods can often feel intimidating, demanding an exacting level of precision and control. In 2021, acclaimed coffee educator Jay Kim set out to change that. Partnering with his close friend, and industrial design specialist, Kenzie Chay, he founded UFO (Utility-Focused Objects) Coffee Tools with the goal of creating a more forgiving pour-over experience. After years of prototyping, the duo perfected their design, replacing traditional ribs with flat channels and introducing a unique 80-degree geometry that results in a dripper that looks like a flying saucer.
Today, it is a piece of award-winning coffee engineering. The latest iteration, the UFO V3, was used by Malaysian brewer Nas Jaafar to secure the title of 2026 World Brewers Cup Champion.
