Though perhaps less famous than other Italian espresso machine manufacturers, Lelit has still made an impressive name for itself as a prosumer mainstay in all stratas of the home espresso scene, from entry-level to mid-range to high-end. Its Victoria single-boiler espresso machine fits squarely in the middle category, fitted with plenty of bells and whistles to give you impressive control over your brewing variables and a reasonable price-tag.

Starting with the basics, the Victoria is a single-group, single-boiler home machine. The 300ml brass boiler is positioned directly above the grouphead, which grants it better temperature stability and a shorter heat up time, and fills up automatically from the 2.5l water tank. That’s plenty of water for pulling shots back to back, though you’ll have to wait for the boiler to get up to temp if you want to steam milk too. Or, if you prefer Americanos, the steam wand doubles as a hot water spout.

Most notably, the machine boasts an OLED digital interface that Lelit has dubbed the Lelit Electronic Control System, or LCC. This interface displays important status information such as warm up time and water level, and acts as a timer when you’re pulling shots or steaming. The PID, which lets you adjust the temperature of your brewing water, is also controlled by the LCC, as is the automatic pre-infusion.

The LCC also controls an automated purge function which activates when you switch from the Victoria’s steaming mode to its brewing mode, which helps drop the temperature and pressure quicker. It also automatically shuts off the boiler if the Victoria is left in its steaming mode for over half an hour, to prevent it from burning itself out.

The Victoria also sports a backlit manometer so you can easily tell if something is preventing it from brewing at the right pressure, and features an extra large drip tray for a machine in its price-range. This makes it easy to fit a scale and cup onto, and makes it so that you don’t have to empty it all that often (though you should still clean your machine regularly). Pack all of the above into a frame that features Lelit’s familiar unassuming but elegant brushed steel design and you’re looking at a rather premium machine for something in this price category.
