The Acaia Lunar is the espresso-oriented cousin of the Acaia Pearl. It offers all of the features of the Pearl including accurate, fast readings, ease of use and Bluetooth tethering with a number of smartphone apps for data recording and analysis.
However, where the Acaia Pearl is perfect for most manual brewing applications, the Lunar offers a number of feature upgrades to make it ideal for espresso. It is much more compact than the Pearl, making it much easier to fit under an espresso cup as you pull a shot. It's also fully water resistant, avoiding any possibility of costly damage. It is robust enough for a commercial, high-volume environment but also compact enough (and easy to use) for a home.
The version we have is the latest (2021) version with USB-C.

Great scale..should have purchased from the get go!
Didn’t think I would ever buy a Bluetooth scale. Was hoping to stay low tech with coffee, but bought Lunar to use with a manual Flair 58..and then couldn’t help getting the ***** Espresso Profiler which needed to ideally pair with BT scale. Now, I thought buy now I would have learnt just to buy the best from day 1 instead of collecting mediocre scales. This is now my 5th scale and the last - I hope. Fits the Flair 58 tray perfectly..pairs with my iPhone easily and along with the app and ***** Espresso Profiler I have amazing shot detail like a Decent and a hand operated lever espresso “machine” with minimal fuss and effort. What’s not to like!
Expensive, Excellent
I’m very happy with it, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t say that the Acaia Lunar is an extremely expensive scale. Now, there are reasons for all that: its build quality is excellent and I expect it to have a long and fulfilling life between the hot water pouring out the grouphead and the steam rising from the drip tray below. The charge port being at the back rather than the side also makes it much easier not to accidentally fry my scale with the steam wand. On top of the excellent build quality, the scale is quick and responsive, with several helpful modes, and you can actually pop into the settings and disable the ones you’re not using at the moment to streamline your workflow. It’s intuitive and fantastic to use both for pourovers and for espresso, though obviously espresso is its strength. Now for the apps. I’ve had no trouble with them, but why there are three or four, I don’t know. I actually haven’t bothered with them apart from getting the updates. To be honest, the scale is so capable without the apps I actually wished they saved the R&D and used the savings to make the scale a bit cheaper! Overall, I’m very happy with the Acaia Lunar, and I’m looking forward to it having a long and fruitful life on the drip tray. With all that being said, it’s still a lot for a scale when a 9th gen iPad is cheaper. That being said, an iPad won't last too long on a drip tray, will it?
