A decent coffee grinder is one of the most game-changing investments a coffee lover can make. There really is no contest between freshly ground whole beans and pre-ground coffee when it comes to flavour. Not just any grinder will do though. For a good cup of coffee, you want your grounds to be as consistent and even as possible, with few to no big chunks or powder-fine particles mixed in amongst your desired consistency. Blade grinders are ruled out here. While they’re often cheap and convenient, they offer little in the way of consistency. Even if you do manage to get a decently even grind, the chances that you could get a repeat performance out of your blade grinder are slim.

If you’ve decided you want to start grinding fresh beans and doing it right, what you’re after is a burr grinder. For most beginners in the coffee scene, this usually means a manual hand grinder, and these days we’re pretty spoiled for choice there. But as much as we love the tactile aspect of grinding by hand, we understand that not everyone wants to stand in the kitchen and crank a handle every time they want a coffee. This is even more the case when you’re making coffee for more than one or two people.

In these scenarios, you’d likely want something electric, but quality electric burr grinders can be a steep investment, even in the entry-level space. Dualit’s electric burr grinder is a great option for those who are looking for something reliable and consistent that won’t break the bank. You’d struggle to find a more affordable, quality electric burr grinder than this. It features a stainless steel conical burr set, the top burr of which is easily removable for maintenance and cleaning. The burrs can be set to one of 35 grind settings ranging from espresso-fine* (though, to be clear, this is not an espresso grinder) to a coarse French press grind with a simple turn of the hopper.

The Dualit Coffee Grinder also features a handy timed dosing option that roughly grinds a volume based on the number of cups you intend to brew. Its bean hopper holds 250g of whole beans, meaning you can grind for dozens of cups before thinking about refilling it. If you’re looking for an affordable, high-quality and convenient grinder for the home, you’ll find that in the Dualit Coffee Grinder.

*This new Dualit grinder can grind in the espresso range, and offers 3-5 settings in that general ballpark. This isn't enough precision to really dial in espresso with a proper espresso machine, but it could be paired with a machine with a pressurised basket (whose portafilter might also fit the fork). We would recommend this grinder for any kind of manual brewing or filter application.
