Polaris Mode

The Hario Polaris scale can be used just like any other coffee scale, with highly responsive on/off, tare and time buttons, not to mention an accurate measurement in 0.1g increments. However, it has a second LCD display above the first, showing Polaris mode calculations. First, select your brew ratio, the increments are in halves, making it easy to adjust your brew ratio to your liking. After weighing your beans, one press of the time mode button sets the scale to automatically calculate your bean weight to brew ratio and gives you a readout of the total amount of water needed. In the middle of these two numbers, a percentage indicator will appear, starting at 0%, indicating how much of your brew you have already poured. The timer starts automatically after you have tared and start pouring. As you pour, the readout adjusts with the ratio you inputted initially. Then it shows you how much is left to pour. Simply adjust your pours to match your preferred style and brew in increments of your choice.
