The southwestern department of Cauca has emerged as one of Colombia's most celebrated origins. In this region, where the Andes branch across the volcanic terrain of the Colombian Massif, coffee is grown and processed at elevations reaching 2,000 metres above sea level. The combination of intense equatorial sun and cool mountain nights slows cherry maturation, resulting in harvests prized for their balanced flavour profile.

About Colombia Cauca Select Washed

This unroasted green coffee comes to us via Nuevo Futuro, an association empowering smallholder coffee producers across Cauca. Composed of Caturra, Castillo, and Colombia varieties, this lot was grown by farming families in the Timbío and El Tambo municipalities. After harvest, the cherries were processed on-farm using the washed method and dried under parabolic solar structures. These curved, greenhouse-style setups protect the coffee against Cauca’s humid microclimates, giving growers precise control over airflow, temperature, and moisture levels. Once dried, the coffee was delivered to Nuevo Futuro’s central hub for final quality control and export.

Founded in Popayán in 2008 under the leadership of Luz Elva Chacón, Nuevo Futuro works primarily with producers managing plots of one hectare or less. By pairing technical training and agronomic support with direct access to global specialty markets, the association helps local families improve their cup quality and secure sustainable livelihoods.
