About the Nucleus STEM

The STEM is designed by Nucleus Coffee Tools and, like all Nucleus products, it has the potential to drastically improve your espresso workflow. Specifically, the STEM is designed to allow you to measure your espresso yield while placing your coffee scale beneath your espresso machine's drip tray instead of on top of it. Designed to fit on top of full-size coffee scales, the STEM is an adjustable stand that will hold your espresso cups over the drip tray, just under the group head, allowing you to harness the precision a scale gives you when pulling shots, without the risks or space constraints of having a scale under your cups.

Measuring espresso yields has become a common practice, both for home baristas and at specialty coffee shops. In fact, there are now high-end machines with built-in drip-tray scales, though these tend to cost a small fortune as optional add-ons. The alternative to date has been small form-factor scales but these come with their challenges. They inevitably take up what is already a small space between the drip tray and the portafilter spouts. Even if waterproof, they are still at risk because of all the hot water and steam they come into contact with. Last but not least, they sometimes aren't as easy to use as full-size scales. The STEM eliminates all of these problems.
