Comandante is a pioneering manufacturer in the specialty coffee space. You could say that they defined the ultra-premium hand grinder standard for many years. This grinder's predecessor, the Comandante C40 MK3, is used by discerning coffee professionals and amateurs around the world and is considered by many to be the gold standard in manual grinding. You may have seen it in the hands of many competitive baristas, whether in the AeroPress Championships or the Brewer's Cup.
The reality is that no one was particularly anxious for an upgrade to the iconic Comandante MK3. It is still considered the best manual coffee grinder out there by many coffee lovers. With the MK4, Comandante, thankfully, hasn't changed too much. The MK4 is a tweaked and fine-tuned MK3. It has some meaningful but minor improvements, but it hasn't lost any of the qualities of the original that so many people know and love.

What a great coffee grinder. Quick and easy to operate. The fact that you can adjust your coffee grind is also a feature I like a lot.

Daily Grind
Build quality feels rock-solid, and it has a good weight in the hand. The glass jar balances the weight of the grinder slightly better, but I quite like the polymer one as well and have found myself using it more. I have ground some light roasts as fine as 4 clicks and have not struggled to hold on. I haven't needed the little rubber band either. I primarily use it for single origin espresso and reserve my electric grinder for blends. I've had no trouble dialling in (with red clix) and haven't found it particularly difficult to grind either. It's a perfect balance between speed and throughput. It normally takes a minute to a minute and a half to grind for espresso (medium-light roast). I regularly enjoy Aeropress, Moka pot, Chemex, and larger batch brews as well. It's easy to swap between these and of course, these coarser grind settings are much faster than espresso. I was able to get through a 250g bag of coffee at 24 clicks in about 5 minutes, including the weighing and dosing (I did 6 rounds of 40g each and then one of 10g). I bought the "Grün" one, and on that note, It is challenging to tell its colour if you're not looking at it in person. If you like the green as displayed above, you'll likely enjoy the actual colour, which is slightly lighter but looks like the picture in shade as it has a matte finish. It's been well-worth the expense.
