These days, Rancilio is a well-known name among coffee enthusiasts of all callings and calibres. Now there’s a newer take on the Stile that makes it even more approachable for both first-time buyers and those looking to upgrade their entry-level setups: meet the Rancilio Stile SD. 

The new Stille SD is exactly the same grinder you already know and love, but with one significant difference. Rancilio has done away with the original Stile’s time-based dosing options, meaning that the Stile SD only offers continuous dosing (i.e. it grinds until you hit “stop”). This entails the removal of the original Stile’s touchscreen interface, which has been replaced with a kind of glass blackboard, compatible with  dry-erase markers. Rancilio recommends using this to mark, for example, your grinder’s designated beans or blend, or to write down your particular recipe so it's always staring you in the face. While not innovative in the sense of addition, this does drive the price down significantly, placing an already attractive grinder into an even more attractive budget range. 

Aside from the above, the Stile SD is the same Rancilio grinder we know and love. It sports a flat 58mm burr set suited to grind for both filter brews and espresso quickly and quietly, a 300g hopper, and precise micrometric stepped adjustment, all packed into a compact and tastefully minimalist frame. As always, the Stile SD is a great option for a home espresso setup, and now it's even more affordable.
