1Zpresso fans may already be familiar with the brand’s pint-sized Q2 S grinder. At 14cm tall, 4cm wide, the Q2 S is small enough to fit inside of an AeroPress plunger. At only 465g it’s an easy pick for something to take camping or to and form the office.

The Q-Air is the Q2 S’s little cousin, literally. Aside from the slightly shorter handle, it’s the same size as the Q2 S, but weighing in at a mere 365g it’s a full 20% lighter. The new slim-down is thanks in part to 1Zpresso trading the aluminium alloy catch cup for one in durable polycarbonate. The rest of the Q-Air’s body, which can hold between 15g and 20g of coffee beans at a time, is still made of aluminium.

The Q-Air’s all-important internals are just as good as those of the Q2 S. It packs the same impressive 38mm set of heptagonal burrs in its diminutive frame, which are capable of grinding for just about any manual brew method with ease and consistency. With several rotations worth of grind adjustment on the dial, and 30 stepped clicks per rotation, each one representing 25 microns of adjustment, you can fine-tune your grind to a truly exacting degree. Moreover, thanks to the dial’s clear number markings, dialling-in is a lot easier than you might expect of something that can be so precisely fine-tuned.
