1Zpresso may still be the new kids on the block relative to more established manual grinder brands like Timemore and Comandante, but they’ve already made quite a name for themselves. About the 1Zpresso X-Ultra Manual Coffee Grinder

The X-Ultra is 1Zpresso’s newest addition to their X-series of manual coffee grinders, which acts as a happy medium between the Q and K-series in terms of portability and versatility respectively. Like the X-Pro S before it, the Ultra is a little more compact and lighter than other 1Zpresso grinders, making it a little more portable (though it’s not as much a backpack staple as the Q-Air or Q2 S). At 40mm, the burr set is a little smaller than those of 1Zpresso’s other flagship models, but it’s still perfectly suited to grind for any brewing method from French press to Turkish. Moreover, thanks to a unique heptagonal design, the X-Ultra’s burrs grind with greater consistency, resulting in clearer flavour in your cup.

The X-Ultra’s grind adjustment is accomplished using 1Zpresso’s now-iconic external adjustment dial, which sports 6 numbered grind settings with 10 clicks of adjustment between them. Each click represents 12.5 microns of adjustment, and the dial offers several full rotations worth of adjustments. At 60 clicks per rotation, that gives you a few hundred grind settings, easily and conveniently navigated via the external adjustment dial.

Where the X-Ultra iterates on its predecessors is in its aesthetics. It has a sleek minimalist design with a sandblasted surface that’s as pleasant to look at as it is to hold. Additionally, the X-Ultra features 1Zpresso’s new magnetic catch cup, which comes off with a simple and satisfying twist. From form to function, the X-Ultra is a fantastic grinder, and a welcome new addition to 1Zpresso’s increasingly impressive catalogue.
