Baratza is best known for its range of high-quality domestic grinders that suit every budget and purpose. The brand made a splash with its original Encore coffee grinder, a high-quality but affordable device offering home baristas a convenient, precise and consistent way to grind beans for manual brew methods. The only downside was that we could not endorse its use for espresso. Once again, however, Baratza set a new standard. They re-engineered their classic grinder, improving its features for manual brewing and adding the espresso capacity at only a marginal increase in price. That result was the Encore ESP. Now, we are excited to share the quieter, faster and more user-friendly Pro edition. If you are looking for a convenient way to grind for home espresso and manual brews, this may just be the one you have been waiting for.

Equipped with 40 mm conical steel burrs, the Baratza Encore ESP Pro delivers a precise espresso grind while remaining fully capable of grinding coarsely for pour-over, AeroPress or filter brews. Driven by a powerful DC motor, the ESP Pro is designed to operate at lower levels of heat and noise than previous iterations. Unlike conventional “click-step” grinders, it uses a stepless adjustment setting, but when turning the dial below the hopper, the grinder’s digital display reads out the burr’s position in half steps from 0 to 50, empowering you to fine-tune your setting but also allowing you to get back to a previous consistency with ease. The readout even shows an “ESP” light that turns off when the setting is too coarse for espresso.

As for the rest of the grinding functionality, convenience remains key with Single Dose & Timer Modes. With Single Dose Mode, the grinder automatically stops when the hopper is empty and Timer Mode lets you grind by time with 0.1-second intervals by using the dial. The Baratza Encore ESP Pro comes with a large, 300g, hopper but also allows single (up to 45g) dose loading with the included single-dose hopper. It even comes with an anti-static dosing tray and cup for large or small doses respectively, with the latter allowing you to neatly dose into 54mm or 58mm portafilter baskets. The ESP Pro is also designed to minimise grind retention with a "pulse" button on the front to allow users to purge remaining grounds.

All in all, the ESP Pro is a serious upgrade to an already popular and reliable grinder. This Pro version is a great option as a do-it-all grinder for a home espresso (and filter) enthusiast.
