The Philos is Mazzer’s answer for single-dose grinding needs. While still offering the Venice-based manufacturer’s famous build quality, it has been designed to fit on busy café counters or even in domestic kitchens. The Philos easily switches between grind settings for filter and espresso brewing and offers tool-free maintenance and low retention. It has a large micrometric adjustment dial on its back with a front face held by neodymium magnets for easy burr access without losing your grind setting. Mazzer has also included the option to manually convert the Philos from stepped to stepless grind adjustment. To do this, open the rear dial and remove the “spring plungers” situated behind the inner gear, which create the stepped clicking sensation.

The Philos has precision-tooled stainless steel flat burrs, fed by a long chamber which pre-breaks beans before feeding them to the burrs. This length extends the grinding process slightly but was carefully-engineered for uniform grinding, and to avoid popcorning, where beans bounce up and out of the grinding chamber. When used as directed, the Philos retains a negligible amount of grounds thanks to a vertically-fed stainless steel hopper, the spring-loaded chute knocker and included dose finisher. The dose finisher is a small flusher attachment which attaches to the chute, and may be stored behind the front plate.
