It's been quite something to watch the emergence of Timemore over the last few years. The award-winning manufacturer burst onto the scenes not so long ago and disrupted the hand grinder market, setting the bar in terms of what was possible at a reasonable price point. Following this feat with a slew of releases from scales to servers, Timemore quickly established itself as an industry-leading brand on a global basis.

More recently, Timemore showed that it could completely disrupt the status quo more than once, with the release of the Timemore Sculptor. Known until that point for manual grinders, Timemore clearly demonstrated that its team's design skills extended easily into the electric grinder space, and the Sculptor has become an obvious choice for those seeking a high-end single dose grinder.

Now, Timemore has done something, perhaps even more impressive. It's released a new high-quality electric grinder for less than half the price of the Sculptor, squarely aimed at the home coffee enthusiast and capable of serving as both a filter and espresso grinder. About the Timemore Bricks 01S Electric Coffee Grinder

No doubt, one of the first things that strikes you about the Timemore Bricks grinder is its form factor. It's small, attractively angular, and much more vertical than its bigger sibling the Sculptor. However, it still borrows some of the Sculptor's best design features, like easy single-dosing, a magnetic, low-static catch-cup that slots right into place, and an easy to use rotary fines knocker to eliminate the minimal bit of retention the grinder would have otherwise.

Unlike the Sculptor, however, the Bricks 01S includes a set of 40mm conical stainless steel burrs, horizontally mounted (unlike the vertically mounted flat burrs on the Sculptor series) that help to make it more compact and more affordable. These burrs are actually similar to what you might find in a very high end hand grinder, but here they are powered by a quiet and efficient motor with an auto-off safety feature. Despite its low 150W power rating, we were very pleasantly surprised at how quickly it ground a double shot on our bench tests. We were even more pleased with how those shots tasted!

The Timemore Bricks 01S grinder is impressively consistent and versatile. With 150 micro-stepped settings, dialling in is a breeze on everything from French press to Turkish and we believe it will serve the spresso enthusiast and manual brewer equally well. Its only limitation is the size of its hopper and catch cup which may make it a bit tricker to brew for more than 2-3 people at once (say for large batch brews). Nevertheless, the for the typical household, it's hard to beat this value for money.

We'd highly recommend this grinder to pair with any entry or mid-level espresso machine, particularly for someone interested in single dosing and switching coffees often. It's also perfect for a manual brewer or someone who wants to enjoy both espresso and filter style beverages using just one grinder.
