This is an extra-special limited edition coffee roasted by Truth. Coffee Roasting. It pairs an El Puente Mills honey-process single-origin from Elkin Guzman with a ‘wet plum’ process Indian coffee from Raxidi Estate, to create a truly exotic blend. The Colombian single origin showcases expertise in post-cultivation processing that many coffee-lovers seek out. The El Puente & Raxidi Wet Plum Blend takes the extended approach to coffee fermentation even further, marrying the El Puente honey process lot with old Robusta heirloom varieties such as Perdenia, which was introduced to India from Sri Lanka as an alternative to poorly performing Arabica crops in India. The inclusion of a specialty variety of Robusta from India to this blend may come as a surprise to you, however, Truth is not afraid to curate blends which buck trends and challenge established practices.
Colombia is unquestionably at the forefront of developments in cultivation and processing, and thanks to specialist importers like Sabores, South African coffee drinkers are able to experience the flavours that Colombian coffee pioneers are helping to produce. That said, it gives us great pleasure to see another exceptional lot from celebrity coffee cultivator, Elkin Guzman, in the hands (and roasting drum) of our friends at Truth. Coffee Roasting. After all, Truth has played a pioneering role of its own in specialty coffee in South Africa and to us it feels poetic just to see these two names together!
The Raxidi Estate in Karnataka has cultivated Robusta and other heirloom varieties for over a hundred years. With its dedicated team of graders, researchers and processors, the estate produces high-quality washed coffees which attract only the most selective of buyers. The wet plum process of fermenting coffee cherries involves washing whole cherries to remove impurities, before dry-fermenting them in anaerobic conditions. Inside the sealed containers, a special yeast culture (derived from plum bacteria) is added to the drying cherries, giving the resultant coffee beans a unique flavour profile.
Note: This limited edition release is available as both a single origin (the Colombian component) and a blend. Truth showcases both the distinct flavours of this coffee on its own as well as its synergy with another coffee. You can purchase one or the other, or both. Just make sure to select the appropriate variant in the drop down menu above.
Truth’s notes
"Combining these two coffees has created an ethereal flavour profile, a cup that moves like fruit syrup over silk."
"Flavour notes: panela, stone fruit, sugar cane, sweet lime, cocoa, honey finish"
“At Truth Coffee, we are proud to roast coffees shaped by producers who push the boundaries of quality. Elkin Guzman’s work at El Puente is a standout example, thoughtful, innovative and deeply committed to uplifting the farmers of Huila. This lot shows exactly what happens when exceptional processing meets dedicated community support: sweetness, clarity and character in every cup.
“From the highlands of Palestina, Huila, where Elkin Guzman’s El Puente Mill lifts smallholder farmers into the world of specialty coffee, to the lush, ancient slopes of Manjarabad, Karnataka, where the historic Raxidi Estate cultivates century-old Robusta trees, this blend unites two worlds rarely seen together at this level of craftsmanship.
“El Puente brings its signature clarity, vibrant sweetness and fruit-driven complexity. Raxidi contributes structure, richness, depth of tone and experimental processing character.
“Together, they form a cup that is radiant, layered, and unmistakably unique, a cup where Colombian innovation meets Indian heritage, and where two processing styles converge into a flavour experience that feels almost, otherworldly.”
