To find a repeatable way to distribute coffee grounds before tamping, Saša engineered the original wedge-style tool - initially launched as the ONA Coffee Distributor and now known as the Nucleus Coffee Distributor (NCD). He famously debuted an early prototype during his winning 2015 World Barista Championship routine.

About the NCD 10-Year Anniversary Edition

Like the original Nucleus Coffee Distributor, the NCD10 is designed to quickly and effectively distribute ground coffee inside an espresso portafilter, ensuring even puck density before you tamp. Without even distribution, clumps and pockets of uneven density remain inside the puck, forcing brew water along pathways of least resistance. This leads to channeling and results in both over- and under-extraction in the same shot. Conversely, a uniform distribution eliminates these variations in density, allowing water to saturate the coffee bed evenly for a more balanced extraction.

This latest generation of the NCD maintains the core strengths of the original OCD, such as its solid hand-feel and signature four-fin design, and builds on them with advanced anti-friction and anti-static coatings. The NCD10 also features an easy depth adjustment to suit any 58mm basket and espresso dose size. To celebrate the now iconic implement, every 10-Year Anniversary Edition features exclusive styling with a dark-toned anodised finish and its own individual unit number (from 1 to 1,500) laser-etched onto the outer rim.
